Well, it was allowed to travel within the Eastern Bloc, with certain restrictions, like how much money you were allowed to change (that was a reason why a lot of people brought stuff they could exchange, smuggeling clothes and porcelain and things was normal, to have a better holiday, to pay for things). My mum was a lot in Hungary when she was a teenager (back in the 70s) so she took me when I was old enough to stay in a car for 1 1/2 day. But I got to know Hungary only after the wall came down, so I was kinda used to be able to travel everywhere by then. And I think Hungary is an amazing country with amazing, totally nice people (at least they were to us, probably because we were tourists). It is pretty warm there. They have old castles and churches, a lo to see.
