Of course, Dean wants Sam to have a chance to get out of it all. He sees Sam as the one of them getting out and he'll do everything to make sure it happens. Dean's doing the trials alone because he thinks there's nothing else for him but this life. Damn it's sad and still so Dean that it works within the whole story. They are finally back where they were before, taking care of each other and Dean being a big brother telling Sam to have a life.
It's been so long since the brothers acted like that.

SAMMY! Of course, he wouldn't let Dean die. Dude, you are brothers and if Dean wants Sammy safe, Sam wants the same as well. They'd do everything for each other. And this time Sam saved the day.

Suicide missions for Dean Yes. Because he doesn't see the light at the end of the tunnel Sam wants to survive and maybe that's a way better reason to do the trials and close the gates of hell.

Hehe, Sammy called Dean a genius. But yes, with what they went through Dean's better than John by now.

Okay, that was unexpected.
But damn, I love seeing the boys like this. This is SPN and I like it a lot that this show has the feeling back that has only been there for a few eps each season for some time now. It's about the brothers and what they'd do for each other and what they'd do to save the world.
