Aww, I love reading your essays.. :) That's why I read your LJ entries.

I barely remember growing up in such a restictive system but I remember enough to know what it was like and that we actually were good. We had a good life as kids but I know that if it had been there when I grew older I think I would have had problems with it as well. As a child you never realize in what kind of system you are in. That comes later. But yes it was commong to smuggle or *trade* stuff. People were very inventive due to the lack of material and money.

I love old churches as well. And yes, you are right 100 years isn't that old but you know a lot of houses here aren't any older either. The war got a lot of the really old buildings. But thank God, there are countries and towns in Europe (and Germany) which weren't effected by the war.
