They definitely should. This could get interesting. Of course, I'm patriotic and therefore my no 1 is Markus ;-).

Germany is short of a back specialist who actually swims long course.. So I am going for Aaron or Ryan. But I like Markus as well. This really can be interesting. And there is still Michael Phelps, who can be damn fast in backstroke as well.
I knew Ryan can do that, he was third in Montreal and has been swimming pretty good since 2004 Trials.

I don't know much about the swimming world, but was there a reason Aaron wasn't there (at least I didn't hear his name mentioned)?

Uhm, yes there are some reasons. First, school. Aaron is finishing university now and didn't want to go to Shanghai. A lot of worl class swimmers are skipping short course meets to concentrate on the long course major meets. This year those will be the European Championships and the Pan Pacific Games. Short Course isn't that popular outside of the World Cuo circuite (where you can earn pretty good money).
